- Conifer bonsai trees are most suited to un-glazed bonsai pots.
- Deciduous bonsai trees can be planted in either un-glazed or glazed bonsai pots of all colours.
- Flowering bonsai trees tend to look best in brighter coloured bonsai pots.
- Formally styled bonsai trees look better in straight edged bonsai pots. (usually rectangular)
- Informally styled bonsai trees can look good in all bonsai pot shapes.
- Literati styled bonsai trees suit round and primitive bonsai pots.
- Cascade and Semi Cascade bonsai trees should be planted in deep bonsai pots. (usually square)
- Group and Forest plantings suit shallow ovals or slabs.
- The bonsai pot length should be approximately two thirds the height of your bonsai tree. (from Nebari to Apex)
- The bonsai pot depth should be approximately the diameter of the trunk base. (not circumference)
- Your choice of bonsai pot should always compliment your bonsai tree to create an overall image and not detract your eye from the bonsai itself.
